At the Chairmen’s Reception, Randy Jackson announced his goal to reach 1,000 members by June 30, 2015. Following the successful event on Aug. 21, a new member emailed the District Council office telling us he is joining today. Only 103 more new members to go! The District Council membership today is at 896. The objective is to get us back into the Top Ten Largest District Council worldwide. Urban Land Institute’s Orange County/Inland Empire District Council  held a Summer Networking event last Thursday evening honoring our new Chairman, President of PlaceWorks, Randal W. Jackson (on Right) to serve as its District Council Chairman. Randy succeeds Michael Ruane (on Left), Chief of Strategic and Public Affairs, CalOptima, who served between 2011 and 2014.

YLG Happy Hour August 28th


Join your fellow ULI Orange County/Inland Empire YLG members for another Happy Hour get together this month! Two weeks from today, we will meet at the Bosscat Kitchen on Thursday, August 28th from 6:00PM – 8:00PM for an evening of mingling, conversation and laughs. We had a great turnout at the July Happy Hour event and hope to make this a monthly occurrence. Please note that this is a no host event – however, it will definitely be a fun event! ULI OCIE Mentorship Group visits with Broadcom’s Global Real Estate Group


On August 13, 2014, ULI Mentor (Robert Glessner) Group 7 toured Broadcom’s campus and met with Jeremy Fenton, Project Manager of Broadcom’s Global Real Estate Group. Jeremy shared insights about Broadcom’s history of development, its products and influence on technology, its competitors, and his role as Project Manager for Broadcom’s national real estate needs, including site locations, building upgrades, and dealing with day to day challenges in keeping pace with cutting edge technology and facility demands. Randy succeeds Michael Ruane, Chief of Strategic and Public Affairs, CalOptima, who served between 2011 and 2014. If you are a developer with expertise in Mixed-Use or Transit-Oriented Development, the City of Riverside seeks a member from the Real Estate Development Industry as part of the City’s “Riverside Reconnects Streetcar Study” Steering Committee.

The City is studying whether a streetcar in Riverside is feasible and beneficial. The study currently underway will evaluate route alignments, construction and operating costs, community benefits and challenges, phasing, the correlation with land development, and funding. While the project specifically investigates the feasibility of a streetcar system, an underlying objective of the study is to inform decision-makers of enhanced transit system costs and the correlated effects a system may have on land development and growth. Office and Commercial Council Meets to Discuss Market Highlights


Today during the Office and Commercial Initiative Council meeting, ULI OC/IE welcomed several new council members. Jinger Tapia inspired a discussion about Title 24 and how its  higher energy efficiency standards, which went into effect on July 1st 2014, will impact all new construction or renovation. Bob Caudill presented highlights of the OC Office and Commercial market, including a resurgence of the 5,000 – 15,000sf market and an increase in user purchases.
