ARTIC TAP II TAP
On February 26-27, 2009, ULI Orange County held a Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) for the City of Anaheim and the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA). This was the second TAP, in a series of three, for the proposed Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC). This TAP focused on urban design, placemaking and sustainability for ARTIC. ARTIC is planned as a world-class transportation gateway and mixed-use activity center on a 15.7-acre site co-owned by the City and OCTA. The panel was presented with the challenge to suggest key aspects that would make ARTIC a sustainable and iconic transportation facility for Orange County. This second TAP provided recommendations for including sustainable design elements, improving pedestrian and vehicular access, encouraging ridership through design, and avoiding design pitfalls. The six-member panel of experts was chaired by Ron Izumita, IMA+Design. To download a copy of the TAP report, click here.
There is a desire by the City of Anaheim to encourage innovative reinvention of the 16-acre ARTIC site by developing a public-private partnership to encourage the American entrepreneurial spirit to flourish to benefit the residents, businesses, and visitors of Anaheim as well as the entire county.
The ARTIC is strategically located within a few miles of major southern California freeways, adjacent to Angel Stadium, and Honda Center. Anaheim's proactive approach to facilitating ARTIC is a major step in creating a successful transportation and mixed-use activity center.
Since 1947, the ULI Advisory Services Program has been assisting communities by bringing together panels of seasoned real estate, planning, financial, marketing, and development specialists to provide unbiased, pragmatic advice on complex land use and development issues.
