Workforce HousingULI Orange County considers finding solutions to working families' need for affordable housing to be a vital part of better growth patterns for the nation's urban areas. Workforce Housing Resource Guide
There is no standard process for building workforce housing—each development requires creativity and collaboration. However, this resource guide reviews some popular strategies. Three types of actors use these strategies: local governments, the nonprofit sector, and the private sector. Ideally, all three will contribute toward housing our Orange County workforce—alone, each will struggle. This resource guide focuses on tools that enable the construction of new workforce housing units. Related strategies include rehabilitation of existing units, direct assistance that helps families to buy or rent market-rate housing, and the preservation of affordable units beyond the initial subsidy or affordability requirement.
