Breaking Down Silos for Solutions

Michael Ruane, National CORE and Immediate Past Chair of ULI OC/IE, tells audience at OC Housing Summit that “Orange County has only about 3-5 years from either getting ahead or at least stemming the demographic shift [county’s population growing older].”  Ruane calls for breaking down silos to solve OC affordable housing crisis, working with leaders in transportation and health.

Building for Change

ULI Trustees discuss changes taking place in the land use planning and real estate development industry at the Spring Meeting. “We have to spend more time thinking about how technology is impacting the industry,” said Randy Rowe, ULI Chairman-Elect. ULI Trustees set a course for the Institute at the Mid-Winter Meeting in Paris, which includes Leadership, Flexibility, Natural Resources/Climate Change,   PPP, etc.

Streetcar Comes to OC

The City of Santa Ana announced approval of the Streetcar!  Darrell Johnson, CEO, OCTA, stated that traditional bus usage is declining in cities across the country and OC is no exception.  Bringing alternative methods of getting around in OC will also attract and keep the next generation, a finding ULI OC/IE learned during the Reality Check 2.0 project conducted in 2013-2014, based on the fact that OC is aging faster than California and the US.
