5th Annual TOD Tour
ULI’s 5th Annual TOD Tour is on Friday, January 26, and two inspirational transit-accessible projects will allow us to examine successful models for vertically integrated mixed-use, one of the industry’s most coveted yet challenging development types:
Eighth & Grand, 700 apartments anchored by 50,000 s.f. of retail including a Whole Foods and a popular pub with sidewalk dining, and the adjacent Atelier, a 33-story residential high-rise with some of the highest rents in Downtown L.A. The developer, Neils Cotter of Carmel Partners, and other speakers will walk us through the development and retail leasing process for this impressive mixed-use project.
Lunch at Atelier is provided and will include presentations by Shaun Cook of the City of Los Angeles and Jessica Lall of the Central City Association to help us understand the planning vision and market forces that are generating the billions of dollars in redevelopment activity that are transforming the formerly auto-dependent, 9-to-5 Downtown Los Angeles into a vibrant, walkable, 24-hour city.
Following a short ride on the Expo Line, we will tour the newly opened USC Village, a 663-unit, 2,500-student, $700 million mixed-use village incorporating 134,000 s.f. of ground-floor retail including a Trader Joe’s and small-format Target that are open to the surrounding community and that collectively redefine campus housing. This leadership project’s development team will explain how the ambitious vision got built and lessons learned in the retail lease-up.
The headsets that were inaugurated last year will be back to make it easier for everyone to hear the speakers. Details on exact logistics will follow registration in a separate e-mail; plan to arrive at Tustin Station to board Metrolink by around 7:30-8:00 a.m. and to return by about 5:45 p.m. (train fare is included). Wear comfortable shoes!
