You don’t hear much about the ULI Mentorship Program meetings throughout the year , unless you are participating in this program, now in its eighth year, or you are reading this blog. Well, read on…this group meeting will really amaze you!
Larry Casey, President and CEO, Donahue Schriber, is serving as a Mentor in the 2015 Mentorship Program, where groups are advised to meet at least every other month. Well, last month, Mr. Casey put on a great tour for his protégés. According to Casey, the group took “a puddle jumper” to Sacramento from OC and toured the company’s $250 million, 900,000 sf development in Rocklin, CA (northeast suburb of Sacramento) anchored by Target, Studio Movie Grill, Ross, Stein Mart and Ulta on one side of Interstate 80 at Sierra College Road [Rocklin Commons] and Walmart and Bass Pro Shops on the other [Rocklin Crossings].
The protégés toured the Bass Pro Shops building with the General Contractor discussing the unique details that Bass Pro builds into each store – for example, Bass Pro’s own muralists were creating one-of-a-kind scenes from the Sierras and the fireplace at the entrance was built with local rock.
They went over the project plans with Scott and Louie and discussed some of the unique issues with which we were confronted at the project. “It ain’t called ‘Rock’lin for no reason. We had to blast and remove/reuse/remove/bury tons of bedrock to build our foundations,” said Scott Lawrence, Senior VP of Construction.
A tour from the General Manager of the Studio Movie Grill, explaining their new in-theater dining experience was included. “Our Studio Movie Grill location is the top performer among their 19 theater chain.” stated Casey. And finally, they toured the Walmart and Target stores and the new single family detached residences being built adjacent to the center.
