BRE Properties Hosts Mentorship Group

The mentorship group, led by Lisa Stipkovich, former Executive Director, Anaheim Redevelopment Agency,  got an inside look at what their fellow protégé, Ben Mayberry, Director of Asset Management and Strategic Reinvestments, BRE Properties, does at his “real job.”  The group met at BRE Properties’ The Havens Apartment Homes in Fountain Valley, Calif., with Mayberry giving the group “apartment asset management 101.”  The reinvestment process begins by pouring over a portfolio of apartments, looking for a property that isn’t meeting its potential.  Once a property is identified, Mayberry really starts to work his reinvestment magic, which is comprised of a combination of local analogue review and local marketing studies; emphasis on local.  Every property is just as unique as its inhabitants and BRE Properties strives to deliver what future residents want.  This was apparent at The Havens, whose residents received a dog park, fitness center, redesigned (and fewer) pools, playgrounds, resort-worthy outdoor lounge areas, and of course, transformed apartments.  Mayberry also credited the project’s success to the ease of coordination with the City, which helped him to meet his schedule.  Stipokovich’s mentorship group includes Mayberry and Jessica Candaele, BKF Engineers; Jennifer Chirco-Coker, Planet Home Living and Chris Shiota, Meyers LLC, A Kennedy Wilson Company.
